Flat folding cartons: shipping and assembly explained.

Plan around cartons that are already glued and flattened. What to consider before receiving them and packing your products.

The assembled box is not the parcel you receive

Folding cartons sold on the site are shipped already glued and flattened, ready to open and assemble. Their shipping size is therefore different from the sum of the assembled box volumes. This matters when comparing a folding carton with rigid packaging or planning warehouse space.

Flat does not mean without volume. Overlapping walls, folds and the number of pieces create a stack. The outer shipping case and protective materials add weight and size.

Assess weight and space separately

Weight depends partly on the dieline area, the paperboard and the quantity. Size depends on how cartons are flattened and grouped into parcels. A taller format may become narrower when flat, without removing the effect on the total stack volume.

A stack of open die-cut blanks does not directly measure the height of a stack of glued cartons: the layers overlap differently. Compare products in the same state and measure the shipping case as well.

Prepare the packing station

On delivery, check that the model and quantity match your project, then assemble a few pieces before starting the batch. Open the carton body and close the base and top according to the selected structure. An automatic base and a tuck-in base do not require the same sequence.

  • Arrange products, cartons and accessories in the order you will use them.
  • Test insertion without crushing walls or closures.
  • Check the orientation of the text and printed front.
  • Store pieces away from damp conditions and deformation.

Production and transport are separate stages

For new folding cartons, the stated production time is 10 working days from artwork approval; courier transit is additional. Uploading a file or placing an order is not the same as approving the artwork. For particular conditions or an existing quotation, refer to the terms agreed for that project.

For a launch deadline, allow for file preparation, possible corrections, approval, transport and your own packing time too. Do not work only from the date you begin configuring the carton.

Where to check your configuration

Open printed folding cartons to choose the structure and dimensions. Check price, quantity and shipping charges in the configurator and at checkout for the actual destination. To compare with rigid packaging, explore base and lid boxes and the guide to rigid boxes and folding cartons.
